Your plan and usage

Read your subscription, manage your AI credit and seats, and change plans on Plan & payment.

Lesson 6 of 7

The home for your MatterFirst subscription and AI usage is Plan & payment. It shows your current plan, lets owners change plans, and tracks your AI credit, your top-ups, and the seats your firm is using.

Before you start

  • Owner access to change the plan; others with billing access can see it but not change it.

Where usage and plan live

Go to Settings › Firm & people › Plan & payment (/app/settings/billing). The page has four cards: Your plan (the plan, its price and status, and seats), AI credit (what is left this month, top-ups, budgets and the matters that used the most), Invoices (what MatterFirst has charged you), and Add-ons. There is no separate 'resource dashboard' for firm users.

A note on 'resource dashboards'

A detailed resource-usage dashboard does exist, but it's a system-administrator tool (/admin/resources), not something firm owners or admins use. For your firm, plan limits, seats, and AI spend are all read and managed on Plan & payment.

    Open Plan & payment and read your plan

    Open /app/settings/billing. Your plan shows the plan name, price, and status (including when a free trial ends).

    Compare and change plans

    Change plan (Choose a plan during a trial) lists each plan with its included seats and monthly AI credit, marking your current one. Only owners can change the plan, and the change is completed through a secure Stripe checkout.

    Track your AI credit and top up

    AI credit shows what is left and what spends it: 60c to open a document plus 9c a page, 15c per document per question for bulk review, and work the assistant carries out, automations that run an agent and deep research charged by how much AI they use (most assistant actions cost about A$0.20 to A$0.60). Questions to the assistant are included. Your included credit is spent first and resets each month; a top-up lasts twelve months, pools across the firm, and is only drawn on once the included credit is gone. Buy AI credit, or turn on Auto top-up, through the same secure Stripe checkout. Budgets can warn you as spending passes a limit; they never stop work.

    Manage seats

    Seats, from Your plan, shows how many seats your plan includes, how many are in use, and what the next one costs. Deactivating someone frees their seat and keeps their record; reactivating them takes a seat back, and asks you to confirm when that will add to the bill.

Tips & pitfalls

  • Changing plans is owner-only; others with billing access can see the plan but not change it.
  • Plan changes and top-ups are completed through a secure Stripe checkout.
  • At a zero balance, uploads still store, index and stay searchable. Only the AI processing is held until you top up.
  • The firm-facing 'usage' page is Plan & payment. A full resource-usage dashboard exists only for system administrators at /admin/resources.
