AI settings: what the assistant may do and for whom, and what AI reads from documents.

Lesson 7 of 7

AI configuration lives in one place, Settings › AI settings, with a switch for the whole firm and three tabs: Assistant, Document reading and Accuracy. What it costs is on Plan & payment.

Before you start

  • Admin or Owner access — AI settings are for admins.

One switch, three tabs

AI for your firm, at the top of AI settings, turns the assistant and document reading on or off for everyone; switching it off asks first, because it stops work already waiting to run. Assistant says what the assistant may do and for whom. Document reading says what AI does with uploads and what it pulls out of them. Accuracy shows how often what it finds is right.

The assistant, by job

Assistant groups the assistant's tools into jobs — Look things up; Notes, tasks and dates; Update matters; Contact clients; Draft documents; Invoices — each with how far it may go (such as Suggest only or Act with approval) and who may use it. Customise tools opens the tool-by-tool switches for anything finer. Changes save straight away.

    Decide what the assistant may do

    Open Settings › AI settings (/app/settings/ai). On the Assistant tab, set each job's reach and who can use it, and who approves actions that need a yes. A monthly budget and this month's AI credit are shown on the same tab.

    Set up document reading

    Open the Document reading tab (/app/settings/ai/documents). What AI does with uploads holds the rules for which AI jobs run on which documents; What AI pulls out holds the sets of key terms that fill in matters. The AI credit line at the top links to Plan & payment.

    Read what it costs on Plan & payment

    A document costs 60c to open plus 9c a page, at the one full quality. AI credit on Plan & payment shows what is left, what has been spent, and how to top up. There is no quality setting to choose: every document gets form field and checkbox reading as standard.

Tips & pitfalls

  • AI settings holds no balance and no pricing: those are on Plan & payment.
  • Reading a document is opt-in per upload and spends your AI credit; setting up Document reading doesn't make every upload get read automatically.
  • The Where data can go page shows the AI switch read-only and links back to AI settings, so there is one place to change it.
