Included benefits and conditions

Available to the first five suitable Australian law firms with 1–20 users that receive written acceptance and sign their agreement by 31 December 2026, whichever limit is reached first. The deadline is 11:59:59 pm Australia/Sydney time. An application or demo booking does not reserve a place.

Agreed onboarding and included migration
Migration is included for all new firms within the scope agreed in writing before signing. Founding 5 also includes agreed onboarding.
90 days of base platform fees waived
Your selected plan's base platform fee is waived for the first 90 days from the agreed production go-live date. Its normal included users and monthly AI allowance are included.
Founder-led implementation
Work directly with the founder on an implementation scheduled by agreement, including January 2027.
24-month price guarantee
Solo, Practice and Firm monthly base and extra-seat rates are fixed at acceptance for 24 months from go-live, including the 90-day base-fee waiver. Switch between these plans at your locked rates; the AI allowance follows your selected plan.
Monthly, with cancellation available
After the first 90 days, your selected plan's agreed monthly fee applies. You can cancel before paid billing begins or during your monthly subscription. The price guarantee is not a 24-month commitment.
No review or publicity requirement
No testimonial, case study or positive review is required to receive the offer.
  • Extra seats beyond your selected plan's included users are payable during the free period and afterwards at your locked extra-seat rate.
  • Additional AI usage beyond the normal monthly allowance is payable at the published MatterFirst usage rates. The price guarantee does not cover AI usage rates.
  • External provider charges and external migration or export costs are separately payable and are not covered by the program or price guarantee.
  • Migration and onboarding cover the agreed written scope. Scope changes require written agreement before work begins.

Plans & billing

Can I import my data from Actionstep or LEAP?
Yes, and moving off another practice management system is a service we run for you rather than a tool you drive. Migration is included within your agreed implementation scope for matters, contacts, documents and template preparation: we map your vendor export, run the staged import and reconcile it before anything goes live. Smaller teams that only need contacts, matters, time entries or invoices can bring those across themselves from a CSV in settings, then agree the migration scope before signing.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. You can start with a 14 day guided trial on Solo, Practice, or Firm so your team can test real workflows before committing.
What happens when my trial ends?
You can continue on Solo, Practice, or Firm, or speak with us about Enterprise. If you do not continue, your account is paused rather than deleted so your data stays safe while you decide.
Can I change plans at any time?
Yes. Upgrade when your firm needs more included users, AI balance, or support. Downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle.
Is pricing per seat or per firm?
MatterFirst uses workspace pricing. Each plan includes a set number of users and a pooled AI balance in Australian dollars; extra users are billed only when you go beyond the included seats.
Is annual billing available?
Yes. Annual billing is priced at 10 months for 12. Solo is $1,990/year, Practice is $6,490/year, and Firm is $12,990/year.
What's included in onboarding?
Annual Practice and Firm plans include Guided Setup. Firms that want more hands-on rollout support can add the optional Launch Package or a custom Concierge Implementation.
Does MatterFirst include trust accounting?
Trust accounting is available for firms that need ledger, reconciliation, and disbursement workflows as part of their MatterFirst rollout.
Can I use MatterFirst for non-legal workflows?
Absolutely. MatterFirst is built for law firms but works for any workflow-driven professional services business, accounting, financial planning, mortgage broking, HR consulting.

Document AI

Do I get an AI balance during the trial?
Yes. Trial accounts include A$20.00 of AI, which is about thirteen ten-page documents: enough to form a judgement, not enough to run a practice on. Paid plans then include a fresh balance each month.
How does Document AI billing work?
Document AI is priced in dollars: 60c to open a document plus 9c a page. There is one quality and it is the best one, so there is nothing to choose and nothing to tune. Plans include a monthly balance, and you can top up or enable automatic top-ups.
What does Document AI actually extract?
Text, tables, layout and signatures, plus form fields and checkboxes. That applies to every document at the one price: prose-heavy files such as contracts, letters and court documents, and structured files such as conveyancing forms, mortgage documents and compliance checklists.
What does the Key Term Extractor do?
It lets you define your own extraction rules and map them to any custom field, contact role, or key date in your matter. Every firm has different documents and different data that matters. Define a term once (e.g. “Certificate of Title reference”) and MatterFirst will extract it from every matching document automatically.
Which fields can Document AI automatically fill in a matter?
Contacts and their roles (buyer, seller, solicitor, lender), key dates (settlement, review periods, expiry clauses), pricing and financial figures, property details (address, lot/plan number, title reference), and any custom field you've mapped via the Key Term Extractor.
Can Document AI create contacts and portal users automatically?
Yes. When a party is identified in an uploaded document, MatterFirst can create or match them against your contact directory and assign them to the matter with the correct role. Portal access is separate: it is always invited deliberately, by a person, from the matter's Parties tab.
What types of documents work best with Document AI?
Contracts of sale, transfer documents, mortgage forms, leases, settlement statements, court documents, letters of engagement, wills, AFSL documents, and any form-based document. Prose-heavy files and structured forms with checkboxes are both handled, at the same price.
Can I add balance or extras at any time?
Yes. Top-ups can be bought from Billing at any time and last twelve months. Domain Email, Custom Domain and Integrated Calls are not built yet, and are shown here as what we intend to offer, not as something you can switch on today.

No, for an Australian firm. Document AI reads your documents with Azure AI Document Intelligence in Azure's Australia East region, and analyses them with AWS Bedrock in Australia. Both steps happen in Australia.
How is my data encrypted?
Every connection is forced to HTTPS. The sign-in tokens MatterFirst holds for your Microsoft, Google and Xero connections are encrypted by MatterFirst itself. The trust evidence page at /trust describes these controls and their scope, with dated evidence.

Automatic time capture, included

Automatic time capture generates reviewable suggestions from matter-linked meetings, sent and received emails, added documents and file notes. Meetings use calendar durations; other activities produce estimated durations for review. Time entries are created only after acceptance.
