What does MatterFirst integrate with?

Xero, Stripe, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace connect yourself in a few minutes. PEXA and InfoTrack are real but set up with us rather than self-serve. Anything else goes through a documented REST API with webhooks, and this list comes from the product's own registry rather than a marketing page.

The Xero sync screen, showing invoices and payments reconciling between MatterFirst and Xero
Xero sync. Invoices and payments move both ways, so the ledger and the matter agree without anyone rekeying.

Connect it yourself

Available now

Sign in with the account and it is connected. No middleware and no implementation project.

Accounting

Xero

Send invoices to Xero and read payments back, so the ledger and the matter agree without rekeying.

Payments

Stripe

Take card payments from the client portal and reconcile them against the matter invoice automatically.

Email and calendar

Microsoft 365

Connect a Microsoft 365 mailbox and calendar. Email threads attach to the matter and key dates sync both ways.

Email and calendar

Google Workspace

Connect Gmail and Google Calendar. Email threads attach to the matter and key dates sync both ways.

We set these up with you

Available with our help

Not self-serve yet. Tell us on a demo and we will get you connected as part of your rollout.

Settlement

PEXA

Connect a firm's PEXA account so settlement dates and workspace details land against the matter. Set up with us rather than self-serve.

iT

Searches

InfoTrack

Order title, company and property searches against a matter. Set up with us rather than self-serve.

Everything else connects through the REST API and webhooks. If a tool you depend on is not listed, ask: we would rather tell you it is not built than let you find out after you have moved.

Native integrations

Four connections, live today

These are the ones a firm connects itself, by signing in with the account. We would rather list four that work than a wall of logos you have to test one by one.

  • Xero: invoices go out and payments come back, so the ledger and the matter agree
  • Stripe: optional card payment on your invoices, recorded against the matter
  • Microsoft 365: mailbox and calendar, with email threaded onto the matter
  • Google Workspace: Gmail and Calendar, same threading and sync

Capability 1 of 4

Sign in with the account. That is the setup.

Set up with us

PEXA and InfoTrack, as part of your rollout

Neither is self-serve, so rather than putting a connect button on the page that does not exist, we say plainly that it is something we do with you. PEXA is wired through to the matter; InfoTrack ordering is built but not yet in production use, so ask us where it is up to before you plan around it.

  • PEXA: settlement dates and workspace details against the matter
  • InfoTrack: title and property search ordering
  • Configured during onboarding rather than from the settings screen
  • Raise it on a demo and we will scope it with the rest of your rollout

Capability 2 of 4

Real, but a conversation rather than a click.

REST API

Build anything with a documented, versioned API

Matters, contacts, documents, tasks, time, invoices, workflows, automations, key dates, leads and more are available via a RESTful API with OpenAPI documentation. Trust accounting is deliberately not exposed. Available on Practice and above.

  • Full OpenAPI 3.0 specification with interactive docs
  • API key authentication, scoped per key
  • Webhook subscriptions for real-time event notifications
  • Keys created, scoped and revoked per integration, with last-used recorded

Capability 3 of 4

One documented, versioned API.

Operational value

Each one removes a manual step

An integration that only moves data still leaves someone checking that it moved. These are wired into automations, so the next action happens too.

  • Invoice raised in MatterFirst, synced to Xero without rekeying
  • Card payment received, recorded net of the Stripe fee and the invoice marked paid
  • Client email arrives, threaded onto the matter and visible to the team
  • Calendar key date changes, the matter's dates move with it

Capability 4 of 4

Data moves, and the next step happens.

MatterFirst is a legal practice management platform for Australian law firms, built by NorthCape Technology, covering matters, documents, trust accounting, billing and a client portal, with data hosted in the AWS region the firm chooses.

This suits a firm that already runs Xero and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace and wants the practice system to agree with them rather than duplicate them. It is the weaker choice for a firm whose selection depends on the widest possible integration marketplace, which is straightforwardly Clio, or one that needs a long tail of connectors available without any development work.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why is this list shorter than other vendors' lists?
Because it only contains things you can actually connect today. The list is generated from the product itself rather than maintained by hand, so a connector cannot appear here before it works. If something you need is missing, ask: the answer will be a date or a no rather than a logo.
Is there a public API?
Yes, a documented REST API with webhooks on every catalogued domain event. API and webhook access is on Practice and above rather than Solo. The documentation is public at /docs rather than being sent out under an agreement.
How does PEXA work?
It is real, and it is set up with us rather than self-serve, we connect your firm's PEXA account so settlement dates and workspace details land against the matter. InfoTrack is the same. We would rather say that plainly than list them next to the self-serve connectors and let you discover the difference later.
Where is my data stored?
In the AWS region your firm chooses. Sydney (ap-southeast-2) is the default for Australian firms. Matter data, documents, extraction and matter questions all stay in that region. The one exception is the first step of Document AI, reading the document itself, which runs on Azure AI Document Intelligence in Azure's Australia East region. Both regions are in Australia.
How much does MatterFirst cost?
Pricing is per workspace rather than per seat, starting at $199 per month for Solo. Each plan includes a set number of users, a monthly AI balance in Australian dollars, the client portal and automations. Extra users are billed only past the included seats. Full plan inclusions are on the pricing page.
Can I get my data out if I leave?
Yes. Your matters, contacts, documents and time records are exportable on request, and there is no lock-in contract. We would rather you were able to leave and chose not to.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, a 14 day guided trial on Solo, Practice or Firm. It is guided rather than self-serve because a practice management system tells you very little until it has your real matters in it, and we would rather help you load them than leave you looking at an empty workspace.
Who builds MatterFirst?
NorthCape Technology, a Melbourne-based software company. MatterFirst is built in Australia for Australian legal practice, which is why trust accounting and Xero are first-class rather than regional add-ons, and why PEXA and InfoTrack are on the roadmap rather than absent from it.
Is MatterFirst suitable for a firm of my size?
It is designed for solo practitioners up to firms of roughly twenty seats. Below that, Solo carries the full platform for one user. Above it, the platform works but you should expect to talk to us about migration and rollout rather than signing up online.
