Lesson 4 of 8 · 8 min
Navigating matter views
Table and Board views, plus the tabs inside a matter.
There are two ways to look at your caseload as a whole, and a set of tabs for working inside a single matter. This lesson shows you both so you always know where to find things.
-
1
Table view
On the Matters page, the view toggle in the top-right switches between Table view and Board view. Table view lists your matters in a sortable table — reference, name, type, status, priority, assignee, and last updated. Use the search box and the filter dropdowns (status, type, jurisdiction, priority, blocked, assignee, date range) to narrow the list, then save a combination with Save View so you can jump back to it later.
Table view: a sortable, filterable list with saveable views. -
2
Board view
Click the columns icon in the toggle to switch to Board view — a kanban board with one column per matter status (Open, On hold, Closed, and so on). Each matter is a card you can scan at a glance, with its reference, name, priority, and last-updated time. Board view is ideal for a quick visual read of where everything sits.
Board view groups matters into columns by status. -
3
Open a matter: the tabs
Click any matter to open it. Along the top is a row of tabs covering everything about the matter: Overview, Tasks, Documents, Notes, Contacts, Emails, Key Dates, Billing, Messages, and Activity — plus a PEXA tab if your firm has PEXA enabled. There is no separate "workflow" tab; the workflow progress bar sits at the top of the page and the Overview tab, above the tabs. Click through a couple to get your bearings.
Every part of a matter lives behind one of these tabs. -
4
The Matter Team panel
Near the top of a matter, above the tabs, is a Matter Team panel. This is the staff working the matter — distinct from the contacts and parties you'll add on the Contacts tab. It's covered in depth in the next two lessons ("Building your matter team" and "Asking for help & coverage"), so just note where it lives for now.
Tips & pitfalls
- Board columns are matter statuses — moving work forward is done inside the matter (or its workflow), not just by looking at the board.
- The PEXA tab only appears if PEXA is enabled for your firm, so your tab bar may be one shorter than a colleague's.
Key takeaways
- The Matters page toggles between Table view and Board view
- Table view supports rich filtering and saved views; Board view groups by status
- Inside a matter, tabs run Overview, Tasks, Documents, Notes, Contacts, Emails, Key Dates, Billing, (PEXA), Messages, Activity — there is no workflow tab
