Values AI finds don't just sit in a report — key terms set to auto-fill fill in the matter, and a document upload can kick off an automation.

Auto-fill from a reading

When a document is read and its key terms are set to auto-fill, the values are written straight onto the matter: key dates, matter fields and the people in contact roles. Auto-filled values are marked as coming from AI, so you can tell them apart from anything entered by hand.

Document uploads trigger automations

"When a document is added" is a real automation trigger. An automation can react to a new file on a matter and add tasks, tell people, or move the matter on — the same When / Only if / Then editor used everywhere else, driven by the upload.

    React to a document with an automation

    Go to Settings › Automations and click New automation. Choose "When a document is added" under When, then add conditions under Only if and steps under Then (add a task, tell someone, move the matter on). The rule now runs whenever a document lands on a matter.

    Point found values at the matter

    Auto-fill is set on each value in a set of key terms (Settings › AI settings › Document reading › What AI pulls out). On a saved set, each value that auto-fills shows where it goes — → Key Date, → Field Value or → Contact — which is exactly where the value is written when a document is read.

    Put it together

    The two combine: a document is uploaded and read, its key terms auto-fill dates and fields, and a 'When a document is added' automation reacts to the same upload to move the work forward — filling in the matter and kicking off the next step from a single upload.

Tips & pitfalls

  • Auto-filled values are marked as coming from AI, so they're distinguishable from manual entries.
  • The 'When a document is added' trigger runs on every upload to a matter — use Only if so the rule only acts on the documents you care about.
  • Auto-fill only happens for values set to auto-fill; the rest are found and shown on the document, not written to the matter.
