A document AI has read yields two kinds of information: the people, dates, amounts and clauses it finds with no setup, and labelled "key terms" that only appear if you've defined them.
What it finds with no setup
For an eligible document, the reading picks out people, dates, amounts and key clauses with no configuration at all. These fill the Key details and Clauses tabs of the document's AI reading, beside a Summary, Issues and Suggestions. This is the part that works out of the box.
Labelled key terms need a set
Named values like "Settlement Date" or "Deposit Amount" are not automatic — they come from the sets of terms you define in Settings › AI settings › Document reading, under What AI pulls out. If no set defines a term, it won't appear on the Key terms tab, no matter what the document contains. (The next lesson covers how to create these sets.)
What the Key terms tab shows
The Key terms tab lists each term the set looks for: its label, the value found (or Not found, with why), and the words around it with the page it's on. Show in document takes you to that page, so you can check the value against the source.

Open a document's Key terms
From the Documents tab, open a document, open its AI reading and choose Key terms. Each labelled value shows what was found and where; Show in document jumps to the page. If no set matched the document's folder when it was uploaded, choose one under Terms to look for and click Find terms.

See where labelled terms come from
The labelled terms only exist because a set of terms defines them. Open Settings › AI settings › Document reading and look under What AI pulls out to see (and edit) those sets. Key details and clauses need none of this; labelled terms need a set.

Tell the two apart
As a rule of thumb: if the value shows up under Key details or Clauses, it was found without setup. If you need a specific, named value pulled out reliably — and optionally written onto the matter — it belongs in a set under What AI pulls out.
Tips & pitfalls
- Show in document, beside a key term, opens the page it came from so you can check it against the source.
- If a labelled term you expected is missing, usually no set defines it, or the document isn't one of the types AI reads (PDF/image/text).
- Reading happens in the background, so if Key terms says it's still reading right after upload, give it a moment — larger documents take longer.
