Setting up Xero sync

Connect Xero for two-way invoice and payment sync.

Lesson 4 of 6

Connecting Xero keeps your invoices and payments in step across both systems with a secure two-way sync — no manual CSV exports.

Before you start

  • Admin access to Settings → Integrations
  • A Xero organisation you can authorise

Two-way sync

Once connected, invoices created in MatterFirst publish to Xero, and payments recorded in Xero flow back to MatterFirst automatically, so both ledgers stay aligned. After you connect, MatterFirst also asks how clients should receive and pay Xero invoices and saves that choice.

  1. 1

    Open Integrations

Go to Settings → Integrations (/app/settings/integrations). Xero appears as a card among the accounting integrations.

Xero is a provider card on Settings → Integrations.
  2. 2

    Sign in to connect Xero

Click Connect on the Xero card and sign in to Xero to authorise the connection. You're authorising it in Xero itself, so MatterFirst never sees your Xero password, and you can disconnect at any time — from this page or from within Xero.

Connect takes you to Xero to sign in and approve the connection.

Tips & pitfalls

  • You authorise the connection by signing in to Xero itself, so MatterFirst never sees your Xero password — and you can revoke access from Xero or here at any time.
  • After connecting, MatterFirst asks how clients should receive and pay Xero invoices; the choice is saved.
  • Invoices you create in MatterFirst publish to Xero, and payments recorded in Xero flow back automatically — you don't have to key anything in twice.

Key takeaways

  • Xero is connected from Settings → Integrations by signing in to Xero.
  • Invoices sync from MatterFirst to Xero; payments sync back automatically.
  • Connecting is a one-time secure sign-in to Xero; you can disconnect whenever you like.
