Lesson 2 of 4 · 10 min

Branding your portal

Set your logo, colours, welcome message and (optionally) a custom domain.

Lesson 2 of 4

Portal branding lives in Settings › Client Portal on the Branding tab. You set your firm name, logo, brand colours and welcome message there — and, if you want a fully branded web address, wire up a custom domain.

Before you start

  • Access to Settings › Client Portal

Two separate brand surfaces

Portal branding (the Branding tab of Settings › Client Portal) styles the portal itself. Email branding is a separate screen at Settings › Email Branding and styles the emails your firm sends. Set both so an invitation email matches the portal it links to. Note: the internal Brand Pack page is a sales-asset tool and is not where portal branding is configured — ignore it for this.

  1. 1

    Open the Branding tab

Go to Settings › Client Portal and select the Branding tab. Here you'll find your public login URL, a custom-domain card, and the branding form.

Settings › Client Portal › Branding is the single home for portal look-and-feel.
  2. 2

Set your logo, colours and welcome message

The logo field is a Logo URL text field, not a file upload — paste a public https:// link to your logo image (the easiest place is somewhere on your own website). Then pick your Primary and Accent colours, write a Welcome Message, and click Save Settings. The changes apply to the portal immediately.

Logo is a URL field — paste a link, don't upload a file.
  3. 3

Point a custom domain at the portal (optional)

To serve the portal on your own web address, enter it in the Custom Domain field and follow the Custom Domain Routing card: it shows two records (a CNAME and a verification TXT) for whoever manages your website's DNS to add. Once those records are in place, MatterFirst serves the portal on your address automatically. DNS changes can take a little while to take effect, so give it time if the branded address doesn't work straight away.

Custom domains are real, via CNAME + TXT — but they need live DNS to resolve.
  4. 4

Match your emails on the Email Branding page

Portal branding doesn't cover your outbound emails. Go to Settings › Email Branding to set the logo and colours used in invitation and notification emails. Like the portal, the logo here is a Logo URL text field, not an upload.

Email branding is a separate screen — set it so emails match the portal.

Tips & pitfalls

  • The logo field expects a URL, not an upload — host your logo publicly and paste the link.
  • A custom domain needs two DNS records (a CNAME and a TXT) added by whoever manages your website — once they're in place, MatterFirst serves the portal on your address automatically.
  • Portal branding and email branding are two different screens — configure both for a consistent client experience.

Key takeaways

  • Portal branding lives on the Branding tab of Settings › Client Portal.
  • The logo is a Logo URL text field, not a file upload.
  • Custom domains are supported via CNAME + TXT (needs real DNS); email branding is configured separately at Settings › Email Branding.
